Buying a crib is an investment of time and money. There may be lots of choices and brands out there, but some brands barely pass the recommended safety standards. The crib is a piece of furniture that must give parents the biggest assurance for the comfort and safety of their beloved baby. It must be the safest since this is where our little ones will spend most of their time during their first year.

Delta Children Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib, Espresso Cherry
As a mom of two, let me share to you my personal picks based on the best rated cribs out there. The first among my list is the Delta Children Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib. It looks very nice and elegant and feels sturdy enough. Even my husband agrees. The crib looks high-end for its mid-range price. I can tell that its quality is at par with other models that are twice its price. It is available in three variants which are black, dark chocolate and espresso cherry color. But if I had to choose, I’ll pick the espresso cherry color because it simply looks stunning and makes its material, which is made with solid hardwood, stand out. I’m totally loving its gorgeous finish, sleigh-style headboard and beautifully curved legs. It looks classic and had fitted well with my son’s nautical themed nursery. After trying out different cribs at varying price points in the past, I would highly recommend this crib for quality workmanship, functionality and timeless style.
It took me around forty minutes to assemble this thing which is quite easy as compared to older models I’ve had. And since this is a convertible crib, it can easily transform from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed, then later on to a full-size bed; giving you several years’ worth of value from an item that you only have to purchase once. For this reason, I usually prioritize convertible cribs than regular ones since they really make a good investment in the long run, considering that they also don’t break easily before you even get a chance to turn it to a toddler bed. The Delta Children Canton also comes with a hardware tool to help changing it to a toddler bed easier, another plus point on my book. On top of that, it can fit most standard size mattresses in any of its variant. This is really convenient and saves us the headache of finding the right size of mattresses to fit. The Delta Canton is the heaviest in the bunch but still not too heavy, that even a petite mother like me can move it around the room, which is also something we should consider, especially when we have to clean the nursery room by ourselves.
The crib features a 3 position mattress support with a non-drop side design will provide better support and comfort for our little angel, another plus point in terms of safety. As I mention earlier, it’s also a good thing that the Delta Canton is a bit heavy because it assures that its built is solid and stable. It would take a huge effort for an adult to tip it over, even in the daybed configuration. Its paint contains no lead, giving one less thing to worry during your child’s teething stage. It is comforting to know that this crib is JPMA/ASTM certified. The JPMA Certification Seal on a product ensures consumers a product has been sample tested to the highest category specific standards established by ASTM, through annual independent laboratory testing.
The most noticeable downside to the Delta Children Canton Convertible Crib was its smell. Imagine buying a car and when you get in, it has a new car smell right? Well, similar to that scenario but the chemical smell is rather strong. It may be caused by the wood finish that has a lingering and annoying smell. Our child was not able to use the crib right away after assembly as we need to let the air out first just to make sure it is safe for our kids to inhale that smell for long periods of time. Hence, for any expecting moms, I recommend that you buy a new crib weeks or even months, if you want, before your delivery date so that the smell will be gone by the time your baby will be sleeping soundly on it. Another minor set back, especially for very meticulous parents, is the lack of wood plugs to cover the screw head which can be pretty common for low to mid-price range of cribs. So when it’s fully assembled, the bolts and screws are not hidden. This can be easily resolved though since you can go to hardware stores to buy the wood plugs.
Overall, the said inconvenience are not deal-breakers for me. It is still a good bargain to have a moving full board with a convertible crib that is certified safe, feels durable, looks stylish, and won’t require us to purchase another crib in the early years to come. Not only me but more than 600 of parents were happy and very satisfied with their purchase of the Delta Children Canton 4-in-1 convertible crib since it got 4.6 stars out 5 rating during this writing. It is a good looking and a value product for its price of not more than $270 with free shipping and return if you buy this from Amazon. It’s price is just average but would make a good investment for long term use.
Graco Bryson 4-in-1 Convertible Crib
Graco Bryson 4-in-1 is one reliable crib that can grow with your kids and would definitely save you some time and money from needing to search for another one. It also costs less than of most cribs in its class! Who wants to spend for an extra hundred bucks when you could just buy a crib for the same quality at a fraction of the price right? You can hardly find such a great bargain as the Graco Bryson yet works just as hard as the other pricier ones, definitely a wise investment. So look no further as this is likely what you’re looking for.
This might look just plain on paper but I was surprised to find it really beautiful up close. You can tell it is well-made as the structure is sturdy, the wood is durable and the curves make a great accent. Most importantly, it feels safe and built to last. It looks like a solid piece of furniture that will grow along with my little kid.
You can choose from 4 major colors which are espresso, dove brown, pebble gray and white. All of them looks awesome. The espresso and dove brown are quite similar but differs in the shade of brown while the espresso has a slightly shinier finish. The white looks great and clean but the problem with white though is that it’s prone to get dirtied easily so it might need the extra care. Lastly, the finish of pebble gray is more of a metallic gray, quite presentable and pleasing to the eye.
The crib is easy to assemble since the instructions are easy to follow. It may take about 30 minutes more or less to assemble this depending if you or your other half are pretty handy with the tools. You will be impressed with how everything fits easily together as there are no dents or dings on any of its parts, neither are there no peeled paint anywhere. Its materials are made with quality and feels solid. Every pieces and screw hole lined up perfectly well. I really appreciate how Graco carefully packaged this thing to achieve that feat.
I love that the Graco Bryson has adjustable heights for the mattress so I don’t have to bend over the crib’s side too far to pick up my newborn. This is a good thing and a great help in preventing us from having back pain. And like the Delta Canton, the Bryson converts from a crib to a toddler bed, daybed and full size headboard and foot board. So this makes for a great investment as well, since I know I’m not spending hundreds for my child that he will eventually outgrow in just a year or two.
However, I notice that it is quite lower as compared to my previous crib for my older son. I’m petite and the railings are a little lower than I expected. All the cribs I’ve seen are usually about chest height but this one is slightly right under mine. I suppose there are both good and bad points about it depending on what you’ll prefer or your height. Having a lower railing can allow you to easily access your baby inside the crib which is good for parents with average height. But for extra tall parents, this might mean having to bend extra lower. Also, with high railings can ensure the safety of your baby since as your baby ages and grows taller, it will be harder for them to escape their crib and prevent the worse of having your kid fall off their crib. But this can be avoided with its adjustable height feature. Another thing that is noticeably missing is the mattress. The crib and the mattress are sold separately, but don’t worry as you have the option to purchase them together.
For its mid-priced range, it boasts its three-position adjustable mattress support, convertible feature, durable material and sleek finish that you will look forward of owning one. It is regularly priced at $260, but time to time it is available for a great bargain of around $195.49 from Amazon with free shipping. That’s about getting 25% discount which is already a huge deal for us parents now that we’re having more expenses for starting a family. And since Amazon is a trusted seller, you can easily request to return the product for free if you happen to find any faults with your purchase but I think it’s far from happening as you’ll surely love it. Just as well with the other parents who have already bought it wherein it received great satisfactions of 4.5 stars out of perfect 5. Its price and quality is impressive enough for me to include it to my best rated cribs list.
Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, Grey Finish
Now if you are further looking for the cheapest crib with the most positive reviews out there, the one that best fits this criteria is the Union 3-in-1 Convertible crib. This may sound like the practical choice but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to compromise on the quality of what we are buying for our little ones. This crib is exactly what your family needs when you are under a budget.
I love that the crib itself is very simple in design but feels sturdy and comfortable. If you want something that is economical and reliable at the same time, consider this when deciding for your purchase. Once you get your hands on it, you will be impressed on how its clean lines make for a modern look, while the construction seems well put-together and safe enough for a rowdy child. The design is simple that makes it easy to blend well with most backgrounds and designs of the room. And because of its simplicity, assembling it will be effortless and a piece of cake. The instructions are not difficult to follow and have illustrations so identifying the parts are easy. Just a little handyman tip, make sure not to over tighten its bolts. The metallic bolts are showing afterwards but does not distract from the item’s zen style.
The crib looks and feels comfortable and assuring. It is light but not flimsy. And it’s good that it is not bulky and doesn’t take up a whole lot of room; yet big and wide enough for a growing child to play and sleep. It can fit standard-size crib mattress, but I suggest that you get thicker ones for this. Bottom line, this is your basic crib without all the frills and fancy designs, but has the ideal weight and adequate standard dimensions. It can easily be lifted and adjusted alongside a wall, and it’s sturdy and heavy enough to protect the child against accidental tipping over of the crib. Another good point is that this crib has 4 adjustable settings. From the top rail down to the mattress measures about 11 inches at the highest setting and from the floor to the underside of the side rail measures about 6 inches. The space allowance at the bottom allows you to place a trundle drawer to put diapers or small baby essentials inside. It’s a good space saving tip and convenience for us!
The Union 3-in-1 crib can convert to a day bed, however, you will need a conversion kit that is sold separately for it to convert to a toddler and full size bed. With its built though, the crib looks like it can last for multiple kids with good care. Despite its modest price tag, the model is made of solid New Zealand pine, free from any toxic materials that may endanger a child’s health. Its paint is also free from lead and phthalate both of which can cause allergic reactions and long-term health effects. Not just JPMA certified, this product even meets ASTM and CPSC standards so you are assured that this provides the utmost safety and peace of your mind.
The drawback of this product is the additional cost on the crib mattress and conversion tools that you have to separately buy. Fortunately, there are lots of mattresses and accessories easily available that complement the product superbly. Another thing is its paint may chip off especially for teething babies. So to prevent risk of any health hazards, make sure to provide teething toys and let your baby get used to it so they will not have the tendency to be biting on the crib instead.
Overall the crib looks nice in its monotone style, although may not have the extra POW. Nevertheless, its price of more than $110 and features are competitive enough. Moreover, it’s low profile and doesn’t scream for attention but does the job very well for what it is intended. There are lots of durable cribs out there but for its features and passing the safety standards, this one has the most unbeatable price. I would recommend Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib to anyone in need of a quality but low-priced best rated cribs that will be useful to your family for years.
Graco® Pack ‘n Play® Playard On The Go™
In terms of mobility, safety and comfort, Graco once again delivered a quality product with its Pack ‘n Play® Playard On The Go™. It’s light enough to carry, takes no time to setup and to fold-up with a push of a button. Knowing that my baby can play and sleep here for hours and we can just pack and carry this thing around hassle-free gives me peace of mind during our out-of-town trips or even when visiting my parents’ home.
The Graco Pack ‘n Play® was extremely easy to assemble and even comes with its own portable bag. For its price, I am very happy with the quality as well how it has made my daily routine so much easier. We’ve used this playpen since my baby was born, and it looks like it will be useful for you and your baby as well. It also brings so much convenience when changing place with all the essentials neatly accessible in the mesh side bag. All designs look gorgeous and comes with toys hanging down from the bar, although I do love the green variant with cute stars on it.
You can use the Graco Pack n’ Play Playard as a bassinet but has a weight limit of 15 pounds or 35 inch tall. The lower level is too low for a baby who still cannot sit up or lift their head. Once your child has outgrown the 15 pounds limit for the high level, there is no choice but to put him on the low level. It may get a little uncomfortable to bend all the way to the low level to lift a child but it’s better to be safe!
I think we can get used to it being rather low as this had proven itself most useful as a safe and mobile playpen when we need to bring our little one outside. Our newborn can now be with us in any room of the house. It is so easy to lift up one end and set up into the next room. Such a handy piece that can conveniently give my newborn a place to nap anywhere around the house, while I do my daily chores. This is perfect if you have a small room as I have seen that my newborn do comfortably sleep here just like how she do with a regular-sized crib. I hereby recommend this as a money saver since it can also be used as changing table and play pen. No need to buy these items separately.
This is also nice sized for a travel bed. It’s easy to move out of the way as it has two strong wheels on one side. So even if baby is asleep I can carefully move the bed if needed. The bed folds easily together that makes it easy to carry. It cannot replace a regular full size crib, but I can definitely tell and highly recommend you that it is truly helpful to also own a portable crib. So with that said, the Graco Pack n’ Play Playard makes a good all around, strong base bed and playpen with extra features but is the lightest weight and the most compact for travel. It will set you back about $80 to get one, but depending on the design, you can buy this at a lower price of $60 more or less. And with over 2000 reviews, it reigns with a very high rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars, making this as the best rated crib for portability!
The Round Up
We want to make sure that our baby sleeps comfortably while still ensuring their safety. But with lots of cribs available in the market, searching for one can be tedious and overwhelming. Plus, we also don’t have the luxury to waste our money and time to even experience a trial and error with them as we can’t afford to risk the health of our babies since they are practically fragile. So checking on the best rated cribs in the market narrows down the search and help us become more at ease with our future purchase since numerous parents have also bought and tested them; which they have been more than happy and satisfied that they left a high feedback on these cribs. You can use these ratings as a starting point to tell what’s good and what’s not. The cribs on the list are well-received and got high scores among others that I also find them to be useful and still not ludicrously expensive for us starting parents. The next question is whether they will fit into your budget, need and preferences.
If you know more baby cribs that got a really high rating and think that they deserve to be on the list, let us know or left us a comment to help others find their beloved!
